Fifteen Months of Underpayment Identified and Recovered
The Situation
A retired teacher from Kedah had been receiving her pension since 2022. When she reviewed her entitlement documents with family, a question arose over whether her years of confirmed service had been counted correctly. The pension office had not responded to two letters she sent.
What We Did
We reviewed her employment record, the pension award letter, and the applicable scheme calculation methodology. We identified that a period of maternity leave had been incorrectly excluded from her qualifying service years. A formal written representation was submitted to the administrator with the full calculation and supporting references.
The Outcome
The administrator reviewed the representation and accepted the position within six weeks. The corrected pension rate was applied going forward and arrears for fifteen months of underpayment were settled. The client's monthly pension increased by approximately RM 310 per month.
